VANCOUVER PRIDE LEGACY GROUP STATEMENT
Over the last several weeks, the Vancouver Pride Legacy Group has been fortunate to meet and consult with members of many of Metro Vancouver’s diverse Black community, the LGBTQ community, the Vancouver Pride Society, and Vancouver Police Department.
Our conversations reaffirmed an undeniable truth. We live in a community filled with many beautiful faces and voices that bring together diverse and extremely valuable perspectives. We are steadfast in our belief that together we are better.
Because of these meetings and consultations, we confirm that the people we’ve met also believe as we believe. The Vancouver Pride Legacy Group asserts that racism, homophobia, religious bigotry, transphobia, ageism, and sexism are 100% unacceptable and should hold no place in our society.
Metro Vancouver is a beautifully diverse and multicultural region of the world, uniquely positioned to inspire other cities around the globe of what excellence in community and celebration of diversity looks like when we ALL come together.
We believe, as Marsha P. Johnson believed, that there is a place for everyone. Discrimination or isolation of any kind is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated at any level.
The Vancouver Pride Legacy Group looks forward to continuing to build relationships with the many cultural groups, immigrant groups, LGBTQ groups, civic organizations, and law enforcement personnel who stand committed to ensuring that the excellence of Metro Vancouver shines bright for all the world to see. It is only when we come together and work together that we can truly succeed.
